Plugins and Slots

Slots are areas in a Templates which are designed to take a Plugin. All Plugins that are visible to visitors on a website need to be placed in a slot.

For example, the Tribiq Breadcrumb Plugin is designed to be placed on a page in a Slot. It shows the menu breadcrumb trail from the home page to the current visitor page. It does things which visitors can see on the front-end of the website, and therefore we call it Slotable.

An example of a Plugin that is not Slotable would be the Tribiq Newsletter Plugin. This allows administrators to send newsletters to people who are signed up as Extranet Users. It allows you to construct and send an email, but all this is done inside the Storekeeper, and there is nothing for visitors to see on the front-end pages of the website.
